WE RESIST! (feat. Vivian Grillo)

Starting again from Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln and touching various kind of popular music on civil engagement, we come to the present day with a jazz able again to make as its own an idea of freedom as wide as ever. Multimedia project involving - in addition to any guest musicians - the visual field, but also an encroachment into the world of DJs and rappers, with the participation of a choir together with the solo voice of Vivian Grillo.

Nel nuovo progetto della Lydian. la musica si pone come veicolo di antichi ma attualissimi messaggi: la libertà è un’idea necessaria che, sulla strada già tracciata da Max Roach, Oscar Brown, Abbey Lincoln e Duke Ellington, è ora fatta propria dalla scrittura di Brazzale e dai solisti della Lydian. Con l’orchestra c’è anche la giovane cantante e rapper Vivian Grillo ma può esserci anche il Broken Sword Vocal Ensemble, come già in cd e in video.

The music of Lydian’s last record, between original compositions and interpretations of tradition, in the language of lydian concept. Repertoire by Brazzale, Ellington, Dolphy and others.

Con l’ultimo cd, la Lydian torna a rileggere la tradizione, aggiornandola al suo sound, un timbro suo proprio, sia che si tratti di riletture della tradizione che di brani originali, nei quali probabilmente esce comunque in modo più peculiare la personalità musicale del leader compositore-arrangiatore che sa attingere anche al di fuori del mondo del jazz in stretto stretto.

TO BE OR NOT TO BOP

In 2017 we’ll have the centenary of Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk’s birth, as well as the tenth anniversary of Max Roach’s death: all deities of bebop - like Bud & Bird - meant as modern jazz revolution, now interpreted with a lydian sound’s kind of approach. Eventual guest trumpet and reciter.

Il 2017, anno dei bicentenari di Gillespie e di Monk, è per la Lydian un buon motivo per tornare a rileggere il linguaggio del be bop secondo il lydian concept. In particolare con Monk ma non meno con Gillespie, Parker e Powell, senza dire di George Russell, il lydian prophet.

The unmatched music from Charles Mingus’ masterpiece finally in its original version, completed by ballet . Performed together with Abbondanza/Bertoni Dance Company.

Per la prima volta, l’opera-capolavoro di Mingus viene eseguita dal vivo, quando nemmeno lo stesso autore l’aveva fatto in vita, a partire dalla registrazione dello storico lp nel 1963. Un tributo a Mingus, a suo modo unico, nella forma spettacolare dell’operaballet con la partecipazione della compagnia di danza Abbondanza/Bertoni.

Elligton’s and Strayhorn’s world has always been investigated by Lydian with particular attention and remarkable results, as showed by concerts as well as records and radio broadcasts, sometimes together with great soloists - on both well known and less known songs.

Al pari di Monk, Il mondo di Ellington e Strayhorn è sempre stato indagato dalla Lydian con particolare attenzione e con risultati significativi, documentati sia in concerto che da dischi o trasmissioni radiofoniche, in molti casi al fianco di grandi solisti e su musiche sia note che che poco frequentate.
